Times are tough: rising unemployment, foreclosures, recession. Things are uncertain for many in the current economy, but not all.

Last week in Las Vegas, a record number of affiliate marketers got together to learn, network, and take control of their careers.

Affiliate Summit West 2011 brought together over 4,600 affiliate marketers at the Wynn Las Vegas, which marks eight years of consecutive growth for the conference.

The crowd of marketers was more than 10% larger than the previous year and more than 140% the size of the attendance from two years ago.

Affiliate marketing works like this … a website on a topic like a sports team or hobby features relevant ads. When a visitor clicks through to purchase the product being advertised, the website owner earns a percentage of the sale.

It’s old-fashioned commission-based sales with an online twist.

According to comScore, the U.S. online holiday shopping season reached a record $32.6 billion for the November-December period – that’s up 12 percent vs. a year ago.

Affiliate Summit East 2011, the premier affiliate marketing conference, is taking place August 21-23, 2011 in New York City.

Affiliate Summit launched a new discussion forum today at http://affiliatesummit.com/networking/ for marketers to meet, network and learn for free throughout the year.

Everybody know, Google is #1 search engine these days. Everyone want his website at Google first page for getting traffic or valuable visitors from there. But competition increase day by day because everyone is trying to show his website in top results at Google. I have more than 5 years experience in SEO and still working in SEO field. I want to share few factors which are very important for Google ranking for targeted keyword.

1. Keyword should be in Title and put at first place in title so that prominence of keyword will be high.
2. Keyword should be in URL or directory folder name or inner URL name.
3. H1 tag should contain that keyword
4. Keyword used as Anchor Text from External Links
5. Make Links from trusted websites and maintain quantity/quality

Above all factors are very important for search engine ranking. We have more than 100+ websites which are at Google first page for many keywords. Even few websites are at first position on Google. I want to suggest few factors which are very dangerous for your website. For example:

1. Cloaking with Malicious/Manipulative Intent
2. Link Acquisition from Known Link Brokers/Sellers
3. Frequent Server Downtime & Site Inaccessibility
4. Links from the Page to Web Spam Sites/Pages
5. Cloaking by User Agent

Please remove above negative factor if you are using for your website. I am sure, you website will be at Google top results.
If you know more factors, please suggest..

Have you embraced the money making power of Yahoo Answers yet? If you’re reading this then you probably haven’t.

Firstly, let me tell you that last week my friend made $1000 from answering questions on Yahoo Answers. Not bad eh? Just remember that whatever you do on the internet, in order to make money, you have to sell something. This is true, not just for internet business, for life in general. At a regular job, you are selling your time and skills in exchange for money. On internet, you are either selling your web-space for advertising or selling some type of product (your own or somebody else’s does not matter).

[ ]

Lets look at why Yahoo Answers is an Affiliate Marketers dream & it’s for one reason only:

People are asking questions because they want your Advice.

If you can find that person a product or service that will answer his or her question, then you did service for both parties involved. Then you will be rewarded with some gains for yourself, monetary or otherwise. So what if someone is asking “What’s the best mortgage for me?” then you’re pointing them to a Mortgage Company via your referral link?

My friend has been experimenting with what works on Yahoo Answers last week:

1. Mortgages
2. Personal Loans
3. Credit Cards
4. How To Ebooks
5. Ringtones

Azoogleads perform quite well along with Clickbank (CB). Good thing about CB is that you have a referral link you can drop for just about any type of question. He also has experimented with Share-A-Sale (SAS). CB outperformed SAS but we think that it was due to the nature of products being offered at each affiliate network since CB offers more informational products while SAS directs you to a merchant site, not a particular product.

What’s the best music site to download from? Then drop a nice link from one of those Music Download offers. Easy.

Which hosting company offers best value for beginners? Offer them one of your affiliate link for a hosting company.

In order to convert you need to give a good concise answer to the question. You need to give them an honest answer that anyone can easily understand. Then you can point them in the direction of your affiliate link for “more information or great source that they need to check it out”. You can’t just jump in & drop your referral link. Give a good answer, gain the trust of the Questioner & you’ll have yourself a conversion.

Even if you don’t want to drop affiliate links you can also “Cite Resources” & drop the links to relevant sections on your own sites. Thus getting some link equity in the process & appearing “less spammy.”

So check it out, it’s an absolute GOLDMINE if you do it right.

[ Think again! Research companies are willing to PAY YOU for your opinion!

There are over 300 market research companies that are willing to pay you for your opinion. Don't miss out on this opportunity to live the lifestyle you've always dreamed of! ]

My friend not experienced anyone reporting any of my links for spam or anything like that. The key is to appear as genuine as possible, He also try to answer questions in different categories so the same people don’t see him dropping links all the time. Another added benefit of giving best answer possible is that you will gain authority. As you gain more authority, you will be given more freedom and precedence over other so called “Yahoo Answer Experts”.

Just keep this about Yahoo’s Guidelines in mind when using this method:

NO COMMERCIAL ACTIVITY: You may not post URLs for the purpose of directing commercial activity to a non-Yahoo! site.

He has also been pretty successful with Squidoo Lens as well as Ezine articles and Answers.com using very similar method.

Even before her new home in Leland’s Brunswick Forest community was complete, Arlene Jurow realized she’d need more space for guests.

“Last Christmas we were renting a beach house in Holden Beach while we were building and we had eight people staying with us,” said Jurow, a Mary Kay sales director. “That was when I realized that I wanted a smaller house, but that one guest room wasn’t going to make it.”

The Jurows downsized from a 4,000-square-foot house on five acres in Woodstock, N.Y., to the 2,300-square-foot abode on a third of an acre in Leland. Arlene’s husband, Les, is a retired dentist.

Their three-bedroom home includes a guest room, but after she and Les moved into the house in February of last year, Jurow decided she needed one more place for visitors to sleep. The couple turned to More Space Place, a business they spotted from their car as they rode down Oleander Drive.

“It was something we hadn’t anticipated doing when we first had the house built. We were just really thinking of this as Mary Kay space,” Jurow said, talking in what is now a home office/guest room at the front of her house. A queen-sized Murphy Bed (named after creator William Murphy, whose beds gained popularity in the early 1900s) folds down from one wall, while the wall facing her street holds cabinets and desks where she can work on a computer, package Mary Kay cosmetics to send to customers and complete other projects related to her thriving stay-at-home business.

[ ]

Jurow isn’t the only one who has chosen to use a home’s third bedroom this way. Sean Gamsby, sales and installation manager of the More Space Place businesses in Wilmington and North Myrtle Beach and son of owners Paul and Patty Gamsby, installed the bed, desks and cabinets as well as a closet organizational system at Jurow’s home. He said he has had a lot of clients with the same need.

“We’re usually in the third bedroom,” Gamsby said, referring to where installations of Murphy Bed/desk combinations often take place. “That way we can get the most out of that room. If you just put a queen bed in a small space, you usually can’t do anything else.”

He said that between Wilmington and North Myrtle Beach, More Space Place employees complete about 20 installations a month.

Transforming a third bedroom into a home office/guest room with professional help isn’t cheap. The queen-sized Murphy beds, including the mattress and installation, start at about $2,000. How much a homeowner spends depends on what he wants, including how much furniture he needs. The cost of the installation at Jurow’s was about $10,000, but that included a closet system.

Sean Gamsby and his father, Paul, said they believe more people will be trying to do more with less space in the new year. According to Wilmington Regional Association of Realtors statistics for New Hanover, Pender and northern Brunswick County released in December, home sales dropped from 397 in November 2009 to 310 in November 2010.

[ Think again! Research companies are willing to PAY YOU for your opinion!

There are over 300 market research companies that are willing to pay you for your opinion. Don't miss out on this opportunity to live the lifestyle you've always dreamed of! ]

“People aren’t buying the bigger places. They’re buying the smaller homes or staying in their existing homes and not moving,” Sean Gamsby said.

With that in mind, making the most of every inch, even in the third bedroom, makes sense, he said.

“I always joke and say, ‘You’re basically renting that room out to a bed and not being able to use it for anything else,’ ” Gamsby said. “That’s why they’re usually getting the desk in there.”

Most of the installations only take eight hours, he said. They start with a customer coming in or calling and describing what they want. Then More Space Place designer Marianne Shelton puts together a 3D color rendering of the finished product.

“We just try to give them the best ideas that we can come up with,” Gamsby said.

The results have been successful for Jurow.

“Everybody who stays here loves it,” she said, sitting in one of her office chairs Monday.

[ ]

One surface of her large desk was filled with guest prizes of cosmetics she had assembled for an associate. The new home office/guest room is a far cry from the space she had when she started selling Mary Kay cosmetics 16 years ago. Jurow first used her bedroom, then her children’s playroom, both of which required clients to come through her house before getting down to business. During a recent non-business visit, one of her sons was staying in the guest bedroom while her brother stayed in the home office/guest room.

“It really does just meet the needs,” Jurow said. “And they (More Space Place) were very good about working to try and figure out exactly what space I needed.”

Remember when your mom network stretched from the bus stop, to the gym, to the volunteer work in the cafeteria? And even then you had trouble remembering everyone’s name?

Now—your computer is replacing those burned out memory cells with a global rolodex. Mompreneurs are using the internet to create a vast, virtual support group, and websites that link moms in neighboring towns and schools are popping up everywhere.

Christina Castro and Kate Motz, both young mothers, sought refuge from corporate America in a stay-at-home business that focused on moms, children, and supporting the suburban lifestyle. They launched http://www.njmomsguide.com/ in Westfield and Livingston.

[ ]

“We wanted to have the ability and flexibility to be with our children but also own a business that was relevant to who we were today—A Mom!” Christina wrote us.

The site covers everything from Mommy Must Haves to baby proofing, camps and school guides, green products.

“We really wanted to create a website that made moms feel like it was about them and their needs and interests.”

The NJ Moms Guide is poised to expand from town to town as membership increases. Christina and Kate have also used the site to launch Mom Entrepreneur Workshops and host other networking events. They’ll also be contributing articles for moms, by moms to NJ My Way as time goes on.

We look forward to hearing from them. After all, our rolodex is unlimited, and we’re always expanding our network.

An 83-year-old Omaha woman signed up for a Web-based work-at-home business, but before getting a dime she was charged $22,000 on her credit cards to join.

The woman asked not to be identified for fear she may seem like easy prey to schemes. “When you are 83 years old you are a lot more susceptible because you get confused about things.”

Economic Freedom Corporation of Phoenix contacted the woman and convinced her to buy into the Web site marketing pitch. “They pressure you until finally they say one thing and you think well maybe that would work.”

[ ]

The Better Business Bureau has about 50 complaints against Economic Freedom Corporation. “It offers products and webbed-based businesses sometimes to senior citizens who don’t really understand the deal they’re getting into,” said Omaha BBB President Jim Hegarty.

For an 83-year-old it’s even more confusing because she doesn’t own a computer. She says the company representative told her she didn’t need one.

The Better Business Bureau will help her challenge the payments she made to the company with three credit cards. Numerous calls to Economic Freedom Corporation have not been returned. One message said the company had closed for the holidays.

Onofre Gonzalez was living paycheck to paycheck as a construction worker before he was laid off two years ago. “I was really stressed out, not sure of how I was going to support my family or pay my mortgage,” he recalled.

Luckily for Gonzalez, his wife and three kids, he went from almost losing his Whittier home to making it the base of his own business.

Gonzalez started Splice of Life Now, a home-based business that provides marketing tools for start-ups. In doing so, he joined the millions of home-based businesses that have sprung from the layoffs and firings of the Great Recession.

“With the national unemployment rate at 9.4 percent and California’s rate at 12.4 percent, there is no better time to take charge of your financial situation,” noted Derek Romo, general manager of the Work at Home Business Expo.

[ ]

According to research firm International Data Corp., more than 2 million Americans have launched their own home-based business since 2008. Since the height of the dot com boon in 1999 (9.48 million), the number almost doubled to 18.4 million home-based businesses in 2009.

The home-based industry is expected to grow by 350,000 businesses every year for the next few years – a trend that is most prevalent in tech-savvy Southern California.

“Technology has made it possible for home-based businesses to thrive without having to constantly put money into mass infrastructure,” Romo noted.

Paul Little, president of the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce, echoed Romo’s assessments and noted that the San Gabriel Valley has seen an uptick in home-based ownership.

“I think there are probably several reasons for that, including the relatively low start-up costs, little or no initial overhead and a lower risk of losses,” he said.

West Covina Chamber President Drexel Smith also has seen the trend growing in the Valley.

“A growing percentage of business licenses in West Covina are for home-based

businesses,” he said.

He also pointed out that the industry’s growth is not only in numbers but economic importance.

“Home-based businesses now represent a significant element of our economy,” smith noted.

[ Think again! Research companies are willing to PAY YOU for your opinion!

There are over 300 market research companies that are willing to pay you for your opinion. Don't miss out on this opportunity to live the lifestyle you've always dreamed of! ]

In 1985, the first year the government began keeping records on home-based employment, 2.2 million persons worked exclusively at home. Today the Small Business Administration estimates that 53 percent of all U.S. small businesses are home-based. Nearly half of those supply 50 percent or more of household income.

Joan DeSouza supplies her entire income from her home-based business PartyLite. Out of her home in Pasadena, DeSouza runs a multilevel marketing businesses that sells candles and gourmet food.

DeSouza was a customer service manager at the Los Angeles Times before she took a voluntary buyout. She was rehired as a consultant when she discovered PartyLite.

“I started doing it part-time as something fun to do, then I realized it was something I could make a lot of money at while making my own hours.”

According to the Home-based Business Institute, most home-based business owners are successful in passing the initial hump that can bankrupt small business owners. Nearly 70 percent of home-based shops will last over a three-year period, compared to 29 percent of other business ventures, the institute estimates.

This can be attributed to the vast experience possessed by most of the owners, Little noted.

[ ]

“A fair number of the people who lost their jobs during this recession were middle-aged professionals who have career skills they worked years to develop,” he said.

According to Gonzalez, another reason most home-based start-ups last is because of the special relationship owners have with their business.

“This is it for a lot of us,” he said. “You go from working a lot of hours and missing your family in a job that isn’t even secure, to making the same or more in a lot less hours. You don’t want to let go of that.”

Most of us associate home with comfort, relaxation and recreation. A happy place far away from the demands of a workday. But what happens when your home doubles as your office?

Such is the case of full-time book publicist and part-time blogger, Tolly Moseley. A couple of years after moving into her Hyde Park duplex, Moseley was offered a stay-at-home job and was met with the challenge of creating a work environment that accommodates the demands of her work without encroaching on the comforts of home.

When she and her then-fiancé moved into their Hyde Park duplex in 2007, their top rental requirement was location, even if it meant living with a roommate. A home office didn’t even enter into the equation.

“Like a lot of young Austin couples, we rent, and location is huge for us,” said Moseley. “We’ll live with our best friend happily if we get to live in Hyde Park!”

Creating an inspiring at home work environment in their 1,100-square-foot home required Moseley to consider her strengths and weaknesses.

[ ]

“The first two weeks I was working from home, I didn’t get any work done,” said Moseley.

Realizing she needed to compartmentalize work space versus leisure space, she set up several areas that would encourage productivity, rather than one large office. “It’s such a small house, but setting up work zones is crucial. It’s all about setting the intention.”

Although they live in a three-bedroom house, the spare bedroom is reserved for guests who frequent the space. Their male roommate occupies the front portion of the house, so Moseley opted to create her work area in the white stone foyer, which extend from the front door to Moseley’s bedroom.

She positioned her ash wood desk, made by her husband, just outside the French doors that lead into their bedroom, designating the area for her 9-to-5 day job tasks.

“As soon as I cross over the threshold from the bedroom to my office, my left brain kicks in and it’s time to do work. I think everyone that works from home needs ways to make their house feel more structured.”

With no more than her work essentials — a laptop, a Polaroid camera, a cup of writing utensils and a few files — Moseley makes an effort to keep her workspace as neat and clutter-free as possible.

“I think there is a stereotype that creative people are messy, but I need some semblance of order or else I could not do my job.”

Her work area in the elongated foyer, formerly a sun porch in the original infrastructure of the 1940s house, allows her easy access to the side porch door that opens up to a picturesque strip of Waller Creek.

[ Think again! Research companies are willing to PAY YOU for your opinion!

There are over 300 market research companies that are willing to pay you for your opinion. Don't miss out on this opportunity to live the lifestyle you've always dreamed of! ]

“One of my favorite ways to work is to walk outside with my laptop and call and e-mail media from the hammock. I often joke that I’ve gone from cubicle to creek.”

When she is reading over manuscripts or books from her authors, Moseley transitions into her living room, where she cozies up on her olive-toned, vintage-inspired Antoinette fainting sofa. From this spot, her vantage point is a large-scale wall decal of bright green flying birds and a cluster of chocolate-colored leaves.

“There are certain walls in the house that we aren’t allowed to paint because they are constructed out of antique wood,” said Moseley. “I have totally embraced wall decals, and that was largely because of the no-painting-on-certain-walls rule.”

In another creative move, Moseley made-over the living room ceiling. Displeased with the large cream ceiling panels, which resembled those of an office space, she covered each tile with multicolored fabric swatches.

“I couldn’t bear to feel like I was at an office each time I lounged in the living room, so we took down each tile and covered them in lush green and brown fabrics. The whole project took a three-day weekend and $200.”

When Moseley finishes her paid workday, she switches modes to focus on her passion, her blog, the Austin Eavesdropper, which she composes weekly from the privacy of her bedroom.

[ ]

“I kind of think of these work spaces as different areas of my brain. My bedroom is where I can harness my best creative energy, and blogging for me is 100 percent creative.”

To stay inspired while exploring local topics ranging from foodie news to foraging for vintage finds, Moseley brings the natural world into her interior bedroom space.

Moseley attributes her inclination to surround herself with nature to spark creativity to living with her outdoorsy housemates. “I wasn’t a super ‘naturey’ girl until I started living with guys. Before, I was all text. Now nature is my antidote.”

Here, she incorporates many earthy touches, such as a large painting with screen-printed tree limbs and leaves, a bedside table made out of a sliver of tree trunk and fabric wall hangings decorated with floral prints to cover the French doors.

“Nature elements were a very deliberate choice for my blogging space,” said Moseley. “I think we bloggers, as a breed, spend way too much time in front of our computers. I crave things that remind me of the world outside of my Mac screen, so birds, tree branches, butterflies, are all healthy for me to see.”
